Charged with collecting information for Chinese government
The Department of Justice reported the arrest last week of 73-year-old Wang Shujun from Queens, New York, and an at-large status for four Chinese intelligence officers. The department alleges that Shujun was working with China’s Ministry of State Security to collect information about anti-Chinese activists within New York’s Chinese communities. The department’s file about Shujun was unsealed on Tuesday, which points to him actively engaging in these activities since 2011.
“Today’s indictment exposes and disrupts an operation by the PRC [People’s Republic of China] that threatens the safety and freedom of Chinese nationals residing in the United States on account of their pro-democracy beliefs and speech,” U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Breon Peace said.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For attorneys in the Justice Department as they pursue cases regarding Chinese espionage.
- For Attorney General Merrick Garland to seek God’s guidance as he heads the department.
- For U.S. intelligence officials as they gather and report information.
